Weapon X: CG Blocking out the Head

Image

Woah, apparently I am a lazy Badstard. Lets talk Project Weapon X. I took a few hours to draw up some modeling sheets, for my own reference to model the head. Like any CG project, I take  a few hours to block out a simple representation of the head.Image

This helps to get the form out quick and easy, especially when we have to go back and model in detail. Understanding how the form will work and flow with the skeleton tech inside.Image

Since Weapon X is pretty bulky in form, there is alot of cable management from the chest to neck. Organizing what source goes to what source is tedious, but needed. Like most of my projects, you got to Name your Shit! I need to know every part to change, the devil is in the details.Image

As the project goes, I’ll go over Organization, Linking, and Layers through the Schematic View, and how not to blow your head off when it comes to that.

Weapon X Project..Logan fans welcomed.

Paying homage to the Wolf man himself, I decided to mechanize the X Man. I decided to do a sketch in Sketch Book Pro, trying to pre visualize the scene, and prepare to start modeling the mechanical mayhem. That’s right a 3d scene.

Using 3dsmax 2012 and V-ray for the task, Logan is ready to bust out. Ready to follow the process and get down and dirty? Really? Ok..stay tuned. Like all projects, we will document and post on you-tube some tips and tricks. Don’t know the tools? Don’t worry. Don’t know where to start? No worries. All will be shown.

Like all projects, Resource is the king. We want to portray a fierce mech, the spirit of the Wolverine, and some beautiful art.  Regressing and concepting will go a long way, even with the most complicated task, becomes a pleasing one. We even have a color palette in mind and mood setting.

Art for Hope

Hey Manga Fans alike. Put down your Narutos and give to a good cause by Purchasing the “ArtforHope” art book on the Vizmedia App for Ipad. I know all you guys have an Ipad, so why we talking, go get the damn thing. 4.99 gets you something that is beyond special. See the 4.99 button, press it, seriously, I don’t want to find out where you live and send Gundam robots to shoot your house into pieces.

Artist from all over the world contributed new pieces designed exclusively for the Art for hope, a joint charitable venture between Vizmedia and Autodesk to benefit Architecture for Humanity.

Why are you still here? Buy the Book support the cause, you wont regret it.

Blog update 3dsmax Construction and Production

Even is the most uncharted, back waters of the galaxy, you need to plan accordignly. I’ve been working a few days incorporating a logo into a car engine, a super charged car engine.

Using 3dsmax to construct, piece by piece, a engine of monstrous porportion. The catch, is it encompasses the 3dsmax logo, a symbol of creation, power, and speed. So where do you start? Concept. The over arching problem, is it has to be unique. Planning accordingly is the key, know your subject and research. I use sketchbook pro to conceptualize, develop, and create all ideas. Iterating in the early concept stage, deciding the right design and idea. If its not fun and interesting, your doing it wrong.

I’m a car guy, so watching F1 racing, playing forza 4 inspired me to do this. But, this was not my first idea, just the most sensible one. Building the models in 3dsmax 2012, you needed a game plan for organization. I’m building a engine, there are almost thousands of pieces(not so in real life). Separating them into a naming category by section, for example. E_01, B_08, E= Engine B=Block, by layers of course and color coding. Plan accordingly.

We are still in early development for this image. Its a creative piece, things will evolve. Rendering out test shots in mid production, to preplan compositing, if any, and how much will it be involved. Its good to take breaks and actually play around with simple task that helps you plan for the future. Opportunity for iterations and to regress, and improve upon ideas, composition, and even concept.

So what do I know giving this round of iteration? Vray will be main renderer. I flushed out the passes I will need. I would love to add more details in the wiring of the Engine model. Add more color, and variations to the materials. Migrate more a connection from the logo to the engine. Add 2 secondary engineer characters who will interact with the engine. Develop a different studio lighting set, complimenting reflection, paint and chrome.

3d Max Design Hero PostWork

Building a logo creatively, into a scene is always a fun exploration. 3d Max Design hero Contest is currently being held, and I wanted to share some post work .

Ideas and Concepts. The love of Auto and engineering, thrives the concept. Max design is in the heart of all that.

Modeling the pieces, bit by bit. Engines have lots of intricate parts, thousands on thousands. But every little detail counts. It has to look, like it works.

Hand modeling hundreds of  objects, can easily become thousands. 7 different screws were modeled, many different tubes, many vents. Its good to take your time and do not rush. When all the pieces of the puzzle are created, I will build the engine to complete the puzzle.

To be continued….

That 9 Dimensional kid is updating…

You ever had one of those days, your sitting at your computer, and then you like “FUKZOR” I need to update my website. Oh wait Jquery, wtf is that.
